A journey into contemporary China, the least known and most authentic one, beyond stereotypes, in the first edition of FánHuā Chinese Film Festival , the film festival scheduled at the La Compagnia cinema in Florence from 14 to 17 October which will present a program of 11 films . The title of the review, literally, A variety of blooming flowers” , refers, with a poetic image, to the flourishing and varied production of cinematographic works that is developing in China.

The festival is organized by Zhong Art International with the support of Globally Group , Palazzo Coppini, Life Beyond Tourism Movement, The Mall Luxury Outlets and the Chinese community of Florence and realized with the collaboration of the China Film Association, of the Cinema Area of Fondazione Sistema Tuscany and takes place under the patronage of the Cultural Office of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China and the Consulate General of Florence, the Metropolitan City, the Municipalities of Florence and Prato. He avails himself of the artistic advice of Paolo Bertolin , film critic and curator, member of the selection committee of the Venice International Film Festival.

Far from the metropolis, on the borders and inside the heart of a people, so far and so close to Italy. Here he will take the journey outlined by the program of the FánHuā Chinese Film Festival , in rural, traditional, religious, ancient China, as in that time to the future: a mosaic of films that will tell the viewer through various themes divided by day the most stringent current events, the independent films and blockbusters in China. The calendar proposes a theme for each day: Thursday 14 October is dedicated to female gazes ; Friday 15 will lead to the foothills of the Himalayas ; Saturday 16 will reveal emerging talents and Sunday 17 will introduce new heroes from Chinese screens .

The program (3.30 pm) presents "The Soul of Himalaya" (The Spirit of the Himalaya, 2017), the first work by Zeng Yunhui, an epic drama against the backdrop of the Tibetan plateau: to save his tribe from extinction, the warrior Lendon sets out in search of the Source of life. At 6.00 pm the award-winning "Ala Changso" (Drink this good wine, 2018) by Sonthar Gyal , which accompanies along an initiatory and spiritual journey steeped in humanity, that of a young Tibetan woman, who discovers herself sick and decides to embark on the pilgrimage to Lhasa. So that there are no new births, they resort to the use of condoms, but the children accidentally find the supply and go to play outdoors, using them as balloons. Between hilarity and disruption of family harmony, the conflict between modernity and traditions emerges.

One of the great triumphs of the Chinese box office of 2020. At 6.00 pm follows “The Final Master” (2015) by Xu Haofeng , a whirlwind kung fu intrigue set in the Thirties. Closes, as mentioned , at 21.00 "800 Eroi" (The Eight Hundred) by Guan Hu .

“I am extremely pleased and honored to be able to contribute to this initiative promoted by Zhong Art International” - explains Paolo Bertolin . “For several decades, Chinese cinematography has conquered an artistic pre-eminence in the festival circuit , testified by the many awards that its authors have collected in Cannes, Venice and Berlin. At the same time, a new and very lively generation of young filmmakers is establishing itself, between auteur cinema and more purely commercial works. Although there are more and more opportunities to access a more varied international product, thanks to the wide festival panorama of our country and thanks to the many streaming platforms that are also opening up to niche products, the rich basin of Chinese cinema is not yet sufficiently made available to the Italian public. FánHuāChinese Film Festival modestly aims to provide an opportunity for mutual cinematographic and cultural encounter and knowledge , with an emphasis on the new generation of a vital and composite cinematography ”.

"Zhong Art International - explains its President Xiuzhong Zhang - wanted to expand the circle of its activities in the artistic field by also dedicating itself to the Seventh Art: we have created this Film Festival, which will be held periodically in Florence, to bring the Italian public closer to multiple realities of China of yesterday and today, also involving the Chinese residents of the Florentine and Prato area and thus showing the generations that grew up in Italy their country of origin that they do not always know. It is an invitation for everyone to get to know environments of extraordinary beauty and millenary traditions, to explore the various existences of a people in their daily lives, to discover and appreciate the charm of China in its diversity ”.

" Fondazione Sistema Toscana - says director Francesco Palumbo - which with its Cinema Area promotes film culture in the region, is delighted to host La Compagnia at the cinema and to promote the F á nHuā Chinese Film Festival, an initiative that brings multiple positive values : for the in-depth knowledge of Chinese culture that it proposes, told by the films in the program; for the cultural value of the works presented, a selection of the best contemporary Chinese cinema; for the strengthening of the bilateral relations between Italy and China that it can generate. Tuscany is a land of welcome and this festival is a concrete demonstration of this. As Fondazione Sistema Toscana we welcome with enthusiasm the first edition of an initiative that adds a piece to the many relationships existing between the two countries, in the different fields, from that culture, tourism and the economy, thanks to the vehicle of cinema ".

“It is with great satisfaction - underlines the deputy mayor Alessia Bettini - that I bring greetings from the Municipality of Florence at the presentation of this festival. It is the zero edition of an event that will allow us to get closer to a cinematography of extraordinary quality, interesting and rich in talents. The Company confirms itself as a central place of city culture: also with this festival it demonstrates that it is able to field increasingly avant-garde and high-level initiatives, which offer us a 360-degree journey into the world of the seventh art and the culture of 'audiovisual in all its forms ”.

"We are extremely proud to take part in this important cultural initiative - says Giorgio Motta, General Manager of The Mall Luxury Outlets, one of the sponsors of the festival - our reality is always looking for solutions that help make every moment special for our guests and we try every day to involve ourselves with local excellences to create unique experiences. The FánHuā Chinese Film Festival is another very important opportunity for us to share our passion for all forms of beauty and excellence, values that make up our DNA and that guide our everyday work even outside our malls " .
