One hundred billion sparks, Max Cooper opens the Nextech Festival

From the stages of the Sonar and the Glastonbury the Northern Irish musician brings to the Puccini Theater a live performance with sparkling and granular textures, a mix of music, science, and visual art

Max Cooper is the star guest of the inaugural evening of the XIII edition of Nextech Festival , scheduled for Thursday 19 September at the Teatro Puccini (9.15 pm). The Northern Irish musician is certainly one of the most interesting characters around, able to escape the genre definitions and the labels with which often, erroneously, music is identified.
Cooper mixes his talent and his musical inspiration with scientific studies, mathematics and biology (he obtained a PhD in 2008 as a computational biologist and worked as a genetic scientist before devoting himself entirely to music).
As a musician he studies the mechanisms of emotions and feelings that make human beings unique and with the album One hundred billion sparks (2018) he wants to represent musically and visually the hundred billion neurons that create our experience in our heads. Neurons whose connections shape feelings and ideas, sparks that make us unique and connected to each other.
From international collaborations with mathematicians and visual and video artists ambitious audiovisual projects have been born, including the Aether project - recently at the Uberhaus in Beirut - in which together with the architects Satyajit Das and Regan Appleton plays on the connection between spatial structures and sound waves immersing the audience in musical pieces while exploring surreal surfaces, symmetries and landscapes. From the passion for the intersection of music, science, art and research work with artists who creatively explore all aspects of their discipline, in 2016 the MESH label was born.

At the opening the live of the Sienese Giulio Aldinucci , born in 1981, has been active for years as a composer in the fields of electro-acoustic musical experimentation and research on the sound landscape. His new album Disappearing in a Mirror was released by Karlrecords last September.

Nextech Festival is organized by Musicus Concentus and Atomic Event and is realized with the contribution of the Florentine Estate 2019 of the Municipality of Florence.
Institutional Partners: Municipality of Florence, Sound Network, CR Firenze Foundation, Tuscany Region, Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities
