Brooklyn bassist and John Zorn collaborator for more than 15 years, Shanir Blumenkranz and his "Abraxas" reinterpret in a very original and fascinating way part of the Zornian compositional production, exploring above all his Jewish roots, in a flammable mixture of jazz, alt-rock and sefraditic tradition. Blumenkranz, who here, besides the bass, makes extensive use of the "gimbri", an ancient instrument of the Moroccan and Algerian tradition, pushes archaic melodies and sounds into the seething contemporary of the New York melting pot, together with two exceptional guitar virtuosos, the Israeli Eyal Maoz and the American-Armenian Aram Bajakian (also already collaborators of Zorn, but also, the latter of Marc Ribot and Lou Reed). To complete this disruptive quartet, the vigorous drumming by Kenny Grohowsky, for a pyrotechnic concert that frees the energy of the klezmer tradition in a sort of exciting and hallucinated "electroshock".
