On Wednesday 11 September the Firenze Jazz Festival arrives, tradition and sound experimentation in exclusive contexts in the Florentine Oltrarno. Among the guests of the first day Fabio Morgera, Graham Costello and the Kinkajous
Starting tomorrow 11 September, the first evening of programming of the Florence Jazz Festival with seven concerts in five places symbol of the Oltrarno. The first appointment is with the internationally renowned trumpet player Fabio Morgera who will perform on a raft in the Arno river, between Ponte Vecchio and Ponte Santa Trinita. The artist will propose a suggestive trumpet solo in two sessions, one at 7pm and the other at 9.30pm. Returning from the United States Morgera resides today in Florence where he is very active on various musical projects ranging from orchestras to various combos, as well as an intense musical teaching activity. In Piazza del Carmine there are three concerts of as many formations coming from Great Britain. To open the evening at 8.15 pm is an irresistible mix of doom-jazz, rock-noise, afrobeat and hip hop with Aku! . Authors of a music with a strong sound impact, the very young Scottish power trio of Glasgow - Harry Weir, Liam Shortall and Graham Costello - boasts among his musical influences Sons of Kemet, Fela Kuti, and The Thing. Following on the same stage, from 9.10 pm, the Kinkajous arrive presenting their debut album Hidden Lines, in which spiritual jazz blends with electronics in a stimulating musical mix with fluid and spatial sounds. The London collective, formed by a fiatista, two keyboardists, a drummer and a bass player, gives life to an elegant and hypnotic jazz with electronic inserts. The concert is organized in collaboration with Jazz: Re: Found , one of the most interesting Italian festivals and attentive to new trends. Graham Costello's STRATA 6t concert closes the evening in Piazza del Carmine at 10.10pm. It is one of the most innovative and exciting groups in the new British jazz scene and moves beyond the fences of musical genres, combining complicated high-energy polyrhythms, torrential improvisations and lyrical moments alternated with almost progressive sound rides. The STRATA sextet recording debut - founded and directed by drummer Graham Costello - Obelisk , released a few months ago, is vying to be named the best jazz album of the year. The concert is organized in collaboration with the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival . September in Piazza della Passera dedicates, at 9.30 pm, a special concert produced for the centenary of the birth of Art Blakey , great master of jazz drums and one of the most charismatic and representative band of Afro-American music. The group of seven Rhythm elements in paradise proposes one of the most exciting record works of the extraordinary production of Blakey: Orgy in Rhythm . An explosion of frenzied rhythms, of almost shamanic flavors, of irrepressible vitality, a dip in the African roots of this music, for a real "rhythmic orgy". Between vintage sofas and retro lamps he performs at 10.15 pm on the stage of the Volume Giacomo Lanzeta aka Giacomo Laser with Pizza Buonissima , a concert with analog sounds of jazz and voice electronics. The last stage of the Florence Jazz Festival is the Tasso Hostel with a Jam Session from 11.30 pm. The space is a creative oasis in the Florentine Oltrarno that promotes local and international musicians but also poets, actors, directors, stylists and artists. From 11 to 15 September from 7.30 pm Piazza del Carmine will host the tasty appointment with Wine Talk of "Wine Corner Ruffino".
