DON'T ASK ME ABOUT ME, MY MARTA
Around the correspondence Luigi Pirandello - Marta Abba
By Katia Ippaso
Directed by Arturo Armone Caruso
With ELENA ARVIGO
On 10 December 1936, the date of Luigi Pirandello's death, Marta Abba was acting in New York. After the show, and after informing the public of Pirandello's disappearance, Marta Abba found herself alone in her Manhattan room, dealing with her past.
From here starts the show "Don't ask me about me, my Marta" by Katia Ippaso, scheduled for Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 September at the Teatro Studio Mila Pieralli in Scandicci (Florence - 9 pm), as part of the Avamposti Teatro Festival organized by the Theater of women. Two evenings entrusted to the extraordinary actress performance by Elena Arvigo, directed by Arturo Armone Caruso.
Drawing on the substantial correspondence between the actress and the writer and playwright (560 letters), “Don't ask me about me, my Marta” narrates an unfinished love lived with infinite tones, often thousands of kilometers away.
Marta always carried the letters of the "master" with her. In the hallucinatory calm of that night, scattered them on the bed and on the floor, he immersed himself in them, and thus recalled their story, the story of an elective relationship, secret to others and in some incomprehensible form, "a fact of existence" , Pirandello noted in a letter of '29.
“Compared to the strong and resolute character of the correspondence - explains Katia Ippaso - a note of vulnerability emerges in Marta Abba, with the help of darkness, a greater loneliness as a woman. The sudden eruption of death cannot but influence the interpretation of the past, making certainties waver and leading the protagonist to ask herself questions that she had never asked herself before. It is a night of wakefulness, in which not only the ghost of Pirandello shows up but also the ghost images of all Pirandello's heroines (from the Tuda of 'Diana e la Tuda' to the Donata Genzi of 'Trovarsi', up to to the Countess Ilse of 'The Giants of the Mountain') that the great writer had invented for her, for his Marta ”.
Assistant director Giulia Dietrich, scenes by Francesco Ghisu, original music by MariaFausta.
