Jazz Prime, the new creative scene

A project created to encourage that "generational change" which is the lifeblood for jazz and new music. Four concerts that will see Giovanni Miliani Quartet, Meraz, Federico Nuti (In) formal setting and Smogz on stage.

The Musicus Concentus calendar of Tradition in Movement is moving towards its conclusion. Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 November at the Giotto Theater in Vicchio, in collaboration with the Jazz Club of Vicchio, Jazz Prime arrives: a project conceived together with Music Pool which aims to explore the new creative scene that in Tuscany, as in all of Italy, it is experiencing a phase of great effervescence, it produces new ideas and favors the birth of young artists who are already contributing to that "generational change" which constitutes the lifeblood for jazz and new music.

On the evening of Saturday 27 November space for Giovanni Miliani Quartet and Meraz ( start scheduled for 9 pm ).
The first is a project that comes from the original compositions of the saxophonist Giovanni Milani written and arranged over two years after which they were published on the album “Ok (va bene)”. They take inspiration from mainstream jazz with fusion and pop inflections looking for a personal sound and as sincere as possible. The friendship and professional relationship between the various members of the group is fundamental in the need to create music that is always alive and in constant evolution.
Meraz was born instead in 2018 when Mattia Hagge (pianist, at the time graduating from Siena Jazz) begins to put on paper the first musical ideas that have then evolved into the songs that the band plays today. His personal influences are both modern jazz pianists such as Tigran Hamasyan or Hiromi, as well as groups of the progressive rock tradition.

In the "second half" of Jazz Prime, scheduled for Sunday 28 November, again at the Giotto Theater in Vicchio, there will be space for Federico Nuti (In) formal setting and Smogz ( starting at 5pm ).
(In) formal setting is a sound space where everyday stories are told in a different way each time through the meeting of various contemporary musical languages. The group was born in 2017 within the walls of the Siena Jazz Academy as Federico Nuti's graduation project and will meet in the studio next December for the recording of the first album. The repertoire is made up of original pieces composed specifically for this ensemble with the aim of exploring the improvisational possibilities within the quintet, in search of a narrative balance between freedom and formal rigor.

The Smogz repertoire is instead made up of original pieces composed by the members of the group; the band won the "Barga jazz contest 2019" for emerging bands and participated in the final of the "Marco Tamburini" Award 2019. In September of the same year they perform at the Firenze Jazz Festival in the review "Settembre In Piazza della Passera", at the France Odeon Film Festival and at the “Behind the Scenes” Cultural Circle. In December 2019 they recorded their first album with the sound engineer Sergio Salaorni (Larione 10), mixed and mastered by Antonio Castiello (Jambona Lab).

The activities of the Musicus Concentus Association benefit from the contribution of the Ministry of Culture, the Region of Tuscany, the Municipality of Florence, the Metropolitan City of Florence and are supported by the CR Firenze Foundation with the contribution of Intesa Sanpaolo.
