Saturday, November 19, 2011 we had dinner for the first time at Ristorante Vecchia Firenze Borgo Degli Albizi 18, Tel 055-2340361, www.firenzenotte.it/vecchia-firenze , www.vecchiafirenze.eu . The restaurant is located in a palace built in the fourteenth century and inhabited by famous families like the Pazzi, the Frescobaldi, Guicciardini and Albizzi. Vasari ironically called "the Visacci" for the statues in bas-relief on the facade depicting illustrious Florentine men. The restaurant serves typical Tuscan cuisine with imaginative assortments first, meat on the grill with the highlight of the "Bistecca Fiorentina" and a selection of wines to date. This restaurant has always been popular with tourists and, for this reason, maybe a little 'snubbed by the Florentines as often happens for downtown restaurants. Recently, however, the Old Florence kicked off a series of themed tasting evenings, called "divine tasting", which are also recalling the difficult people of the Florentines!
This evening we attended the evening tasting of the wines of Bolgheri and had a great time. The restaurant consists of several rooms rather large, frescoed by the painter Alfio Rapisardi. The work of the master, carried out with the ancient wall fresco techniques, gives an oneiric and relaxing dimension. The atmosphere is so informal and very welcoming staff and well available, if you want, to have a chat with the customers to explain the menu and the history of the restaurant. Tonight we tasted a Tuscan appetizer with Buristo, Soprassata and Sbriciolona with crostini with chicken liver and one with tomatoes, all accompanied by a ROSE Bolgheri DOC 2009. A typical Tuscan antipasto but different from the usual ham and salami: all three meats they were excellent, especially we enjoyed buristo, great and not easy to find! Then we continued with the tagliatelle with wild boar and a risotto with porcini mushrooms combined with a BOLGHERI RED fagales DOCG 2009. Both the starters were very good, perfect even cooking. As according to the Tuscan wild boar with fried artichokes and a good cut with rocket and parmesan with a MICHELE SATTA Diambra IGT 2009. Even the seconds we liked very much, especially the cut exceptionally tender and tasty! Finally chocolate cake and cheesecake with LIQUEUR WINE ARTISAN. Even the desserts, homemade, we liked very much :) The excellent value for money makes this restaurant a great choice for those who want to try typical Tuscan cuisine in a historical setting in the heart of Florence at affordable rates. We are definitely going back! In the restaurant Vecchia Firenze Card will find the photos we took during the evening http://www.firenzenotte.it/vecchia-firenze .
