"The equality of bones" (ALA Libri Editore) is the first novel published by the Neapolitan writer and engineer Vincenzo Maria Sacco whose protagonist is Commissioner Francesco Filangieri.

Thursday, February 7 at 19 , the evening begins with the presentation of the book at the Caffetteria delle Oblate in Florence, and continues with an excellent buffet aperitif, overlooking the Duomo.

Interviewing the author will be Alessandra Cafiero of "Officina delle parole" that will lead the audience to discover the events narrated in the novel, the historical setting and its characters.

The novel

At the end of 1700 Naples is the second most populous city in Europe and is the capital of one of the largest Kingdoms on the continent. The protagonist, Francesco Filangieri, is a police commissioner, indeed a "commissioner judge". The four episodes that make up the work take place between 1793 and 1799, the year in which the Bourbon restoration is completed after the brief adventure of the Neapolitan Republic.

With few men and scarce means the commissioner is facing problems and cases more or less serious, complex, sometimes grotesque, intrigues of court and very suspicious suicides.

The characters speak Neapolitan, think in Neapolitan, express with the true language of the Kingdom all their verve, but also the feelings, passions, fears and emotions. The protagonist will sometimes seem to lose the battle, overwhelmed by situations apparently bigger than him. However, he will always manage to pull the strings of events, except for the sentimental affairs from which he will always be defeated.

The characters created by the author are mixed, in the narrative fabric, with real-life characters and events described by the chroniclers of the time. It is often a matter of extraordinarily interesting stories full of food for thought, also to better understand some contemporary events.
