EXIT | ENFER
3 years after the musical project on the Tuscan “cursed” poet Dino Campana who took him on tour throughout Italy and also in Europe - with concerts in Barcelona and Brussels - the Florentine musician returns with his new autograph disc EXIT | ENFER.
An ambitious project that bridges the past with Larocca's past productions, if only for the artistic and productive involvement of one of the most esteemed international artists in Italy: HUGO RACE, ex Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, who with our town has a long affective and creative relationship (Afterhours, La Crus, Cesare Basile, Sacred Hearts / Fatalists).
EXIT | ENFER (literally Exit | Inferno, in the double English / French origin) is a record that from the title expresses a tension, a dualism, a strong feeling with a double face: light and shadow, love and hate, dizziness and depths.
With a strong writing system that is both autobiographical and visionary - in a sort of stream of consciousness that alternates literary images and personal experiences - Massimiliano Larocca returns with 11 new songs in which the lyrics and sound environments built together with Race interpenetrate each other with a fascinating filmic and nocturnal result.
Recorded between Prato, Florence and Melbourne in the winter 2018-19, EXIT | ENFER saw the participation of extraordinary musicians during studio sessions.
First and foremost ENRICO GABRIELLI (Calibro 35, Winstons), perhaps the most sought-after Italian musician in the world today, who has enriched many tracks with his arrangements for wind instruments that he played entirely.
Of particular note is "Il giardino dei salici", a piece in which Gabrielli's work is distinctive of his style and class.
HOWE GELB, leader of the Giant Sand and cult name of the independent world for over 30 years, which has left its mark with its surreal and melancholic vein and with its very personal instrumental skills on piano and electric guitar in 2 very different songs as writing and arrangements: "Cold War" and "Fin du monde".
DON ANTONIO (Gramentieri) - another internationally renowned Italian musician who has been collaborating with Larocca for a decade - is obviously present in the songs with the most markedly rock-blues key, such as "(Eravamo) orphans" and "Il regno" while LORENZO CORTI ( already with Nada, Cristina Donà, Lights of the Power Plant etc.) gives the record some splendid environmental tracks in the sad ballads “La stanza” and “Si chiamava Lulù”, written and built musically as if they were two short films that have two different protagonists (and complex) female figures.
